The role you’ll contribute: The PGY1 Pharmacy Resident fulfills the requirements of the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at AdventHealth Redmond in accordance with ASHP standards. The resident is responsible for providing pharmaceutical care to ensure safe and effective medication therapy through the provision of staff and clinical pharmacy services, as well as drug information to patients, physicians, nurses and other pharmacists. The PGY1 Pharmacy Resident fulfills departmental responsibilities within the long-range plan, mission, vision and values of the hospital.

  • Program director (RPD) and the appropriate preceptor(s) for each learning experience.

  • Provide clinical pharmacy services, including primary and consultative services, to health care providers and patients to ensure optimal drug utilization in assigned area(s). Assist in the planning and development of clinical pharmacy activities related to assigned area(s). Identify service requirements by interaction and consultation with patients, physicians, nurses, pharmacists and technicians.

  • Successfully develop IRB proposal and complete IRB submission for approval/exemption of major research project. Develop and submit a manuscript for major project to be determined within the first two months of residency start date..

  • Present assigned topics as part of education for department and/or other department staff. Coordinate and participate in staff development programs (i.e., presents interesting cases or reviews journal articles). Serve as a resource for drug information for other healthcare workers. Provide education and training to pharmacy students, medical staff physicians and nurses, and healthcare-related professionals.

  • Act as a preceptor to pharmacy students completing Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE) or Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPE).

  • Responsible for compounding and dispensing medications and parenteral admixtures in accordance with established Federal and State regulations and accreditation standards.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary patient care rounds and communicate follow-up with clinical team. Prevent, detect, and resolve medication-related problems and to make appropriate evidence-based, patient-centered medication therapy recommendations as part of the interdisciplinary team.

  • Determine and resolve any medication therapy problems including drugs without indications, medical conditions for which no therapy is prescribed, therapy inappropriate for medical condition, incomplete immunization record, inappropriate dose, dosage form, duration, schedule, route of administration, method of administration, therapeutic duplication, medication allergies, and clinically significant drug, drug-disease, drug-nutrient, or drug-laboratory test interactions.

  • Participates with Clinical Manager to identify high-cost and high-use agents within defined area of practice and participates in financial management initiatives (revenue generating, cost containment, etc).

  • Report medication errors and adverse drug reactions.


The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

  • Graduate or candidate for graduation from an ACPE accredited pharmacy degree program (or one the in process of pursuing accreditation) or have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the NABP.

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state or jurisdiction in which the program is conducted within 120 days after program start date

  • Temporary pharmacist license issued by The Georgia Board of Pharmacy prior to program start date

  • Advanced Cardiac LIfe Support Certification

  • Basic Life Support - CPR Certification

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification
